TRADITION! Well, not really.

This past summer I attended a touring performance of the brilliant musical, A Fiddler On The Roof. And, of course, we are all familiar with the musical's tour de force song, "TRADITION!" From a secular viewpoint, the musical's small traditional community struggling to survive amidst powerful external forces may be viewed is a microcosm of our Print Services Industry's struggle in today's challenging economy and changing technology environment.

And, while I am an ardent traditionalist in some matters, if entrusted with the task of composing the lyrics to Fiddler for our Print Services Industry today, rather than TRADITION, I would insert: TRANSITION, TRANSITION!... TRANSITION, TRANSITION!

Everywhere the world is transitioning. Our Industry is not immune to these forces of global change. In fact, we are in the very crosshairs of technology. Emerging technology, products and services may be viewed as threat or opportunity, but regardless, reluctance to transition to embrace opportunities and mitigate threats will ultimately result in decline for a distributorship.

Fortunately, our Industry TRADITION helps pave the pathway for this TRANSITION. Traditionally, successful print services distributors are creative, resolute problem solvers, adept at relational and systems selling, and aggressive seekers of new technology, products, services, and even marketplaces to expand their capabilities.

The operative phrase in the above paragraph is "SUCCESSFUL Print Services Distributors."
