Dear Colleagues,
Two speakers at the recent PSDA CEO Summit in Naples FL made the greatest impression on me.
The first, president of a trend forecasting firm in Maryland, predicted the beginning of the recession recovery could take anywhere from 6 to 18 months depending upon political/economic policies and the return of public/corporate confidence.
The second, commenting upon the general issue of survivability - whether of individuals, corporations or societies - made this cogently Darwinian point. "It is not the smartest who survive. It is not the most powerful who survive. It is the MOST ADAPTABLE who survive!"
So, what can we parse from these CEO Summit gurus' observations to make our own companies and Industry more successful in this current economic environment?
If the 1st speaker is credible, 2009 is going to be an especially challenging year, requiring us to optimize our management skills with respect to cash control, sales generation, customer service and marketing strategy. Developing and communicating these optimized corporate objectives with our employees and clients will be paramount.
Regarding the 2nd speaker, we need to determine what it means to be an "adaptable" distributor or manufacturer in our 2009 Print Services and Distribution Industry. Basically, this requires awareness of new industry technologies, products, services and trends - and, more importantly, the willingness to market them to our client base, where relevant.
